Welcome! Plus some random stories...

So if you are reading this blog, you must be somewhat interested in how the Dan Cary family is doing and what we are doing.  You have come to the right place.  I hope that this blog will be a place for me to keep family and friends up to date with our adventures and growth as we, well, adventure and grow! I will try to post some pictures, especially of the kids as they grow, change, and do silly things, but I make no guarantees.  I am not good at photographing and documenting our fun times because I am busy being a part of them, and it is even more challenging to take pictures with two kids, I am finding.  I will strive to be better about this because I want you all to share in as many of these moments as you can, and because I want to have the memory aids in the future (you know, like tomorrow when I'm losing my mind ^_^ ).

I guess for the first random post I'll just share some of our adventures so far in Connecticut.  Today ws the first time I took the kids to the park.  We have several within view of our home, great little playgrounds, but every time I'm invited Josh to go, he says he doesn't want to.  He'd rather stay in and play coloring crayons!  Today I forced him to go, literally screaming down the hallway (I'm such a mean mom, forcing my son to go to the park!).  When we got to the first park I finally learned the reason he hadn't wanted to go - the park was wet!  Not today, but the last time he went it had been wet and he'd gotten wet going down the slide! So we went to a different park and saw some tractors and had a great time! It was lovely.  It was even warm outside! At least, it felt hot.  The weather app says it was 57, but that felt pretty warm!

My special "mom moment" today was while I was making breakfast.  Josh was hungry and waiting in his chair and all of a sudden I heard "Dear Jesus, thank you for helping me not be sad.  Please help me be happy. Amen." I just about started crying because yesterday was one of those rough days that makes you feel like you're doing everything wrong.

Another fun anecdote from this week was our trip to the NEX and Commissary.  For those of you who aren't familiar with military bases, the NEX (Navy Exchange) is the on-base department store and the Commissary is the grocery store.  The details are a bit much to put in this post...trust me, it would be a very dull read, but suffice it to say, I decided I will never take both kids to the store by myself for the foreseeable future.  It's just not worth it! Picture me with a screaming baby strapped to my chest, with my curious, "helpful" 2-year-old pushing the cart every which-way while I try to navigate two unfamiliar stores and remember what item from my list I'm pursuing at the moment.  I got a lot of sympathetic looks from people and, "Can I help you with anything," questions, to which I would have said yes if I had enough mental capacity to figure out what I was trying to do. :)  So, not such a fun experience at the time, but by the time Dan got home that evening I was laughing about it.

We are pretty well established here as the family with the little boy who LOVES trains - who actually IS a train, or seems to always have some reason to be blowing the trains whistle, at any rate. "Choo Choo!"

Matt continues to grow and is nearing 15 lbs already!  He will catch up to his big brother in no time!  One of his favorite things to do right now is the hokie pokie!  We only do the hands and feet, but he is absolutely delighted when we clap our hands together and sing, "that's what it's all about!"

Training started "in earnest" for Dan this week and my take is that it is going well so far.  Lots of math, which is a fun challenge for him, especially learning to do trig quickly in his head!

As for me, I'm getting settled here and remembering the challenges of the newborn stage of parenting, but enjoying the playtime and conversation with Josh. I'm especially delighted that Josh is napping again, since he really didn't for the first week we were here.  And when both boys nap I can rest, although I have trouble actually sleeping during the day.  Dan is quick to help in the evenings when he comes home, taking Josh for "adventures," and sometimes Matt, too, so I can have a few minutes to myself to finish a project or simply finish making dinner in peace, or even sit on the couch and breathe. It's good to be back with him, even we are in a cramped space.

Well, thats all I have for today.  For now I'm going to rest for the remainder of nap time.

Love you all!
